Chickens, turkeys and quails. They are actually a great addition to our farm. Aged chicken manure is good if tilled under prior to planting garlic. That way, it is breaking down while the garlic is just starting to grow. By the time that the plants need it, the bacteria have everything ready for them.

On our farm we focus on rear dual purpose chicken breeds: British Buff Orpington’s, French Cuckoo Marans and German Bielefelder. Our multi-colored chicken eating eggs are $5 per dozen. Availability is year round, pick up only.

We also offer hatching eggs and day old chicks from our purebred Cuckoo Marans, Buff Orpingtons and Bielefelder.

Quail eggs are nutritious, delicious and fun addition to salads and soups. They do not carry salmonella and they have more protein and vitamins than chicken eggs. They also great as a dog food. We sell fertile hatching eggs from a mixture of Brown and Golden Coturnix Quail $5 a dozen. Quail eating eggs $3.5 a dozen.

Adult Cotunix quails $6 for females and $3 for males.

Hatching results: Eggs are properly handled, stored at a cool temperature and turned twice a day to maximize hatching results. We guarantee eggs will be fresh. We do not guarantee 100% fertility. We not guarantee that your hatching eggs will hatch, since there are far too many factors affecting a good hatch once we hand over our eggs.

Cuckoo Maran.jpg

Cuckoo Maran  - The Cuckoo Marans is a dual purpose breed that is primarily bred and raised for it’s unique egg color. This heavy breed will produce on average between 150-200 eggs per year, and they can grow large enough to be used for meat as well as eggs. They are a fast growing and extremely hardy that will thrive in most climates. The feather pattern of the Cuckoo Marans is a striking and beautiful barred black and white pattern. Their temperaments are docile and friendly. They are hardy, calm and quiet, and bear confinement well. They are said to be good foragers without being too destructive to your garden. The marans egg is very special. Somehow the birds are able to spray paint their eggs dark brown. On top of that the eggs have thicker shells than most other chickens produce. The large dark yellow/orange yolks are another common trait of the marans eggs.

buff_orpington.jpg

Buff Orpington - This breed is a great choice for a backyard chicken - beautiful with a nice personality and winter hardiness. The breed originated in Orpington, Kent, United Kingdom in the late 1800's. They are raised for the purposes of both meat and egg production (a "dual purpose" breed). Easy to dress for the table they are white skinned, plump, and juicy, a beautiful eating bird. Their heavy, full plumage makes them excellent winter layers, shelling out brown eggs right through cold weather.

Bielefelder-Chickens.jpg

Bielefelder chickens - Bielefelder chickens are a productive dual-purpose breed that’s docile, hardy, and easy to raise.  They lay distinctive dark brown to chocolate-colored eggs, and are commonly used in crosses to create “olive egger” chickens that lay rare green eggs.  They’re the perfect addition to any backyard flock, and the most challenging thing is simply learning to pronounce their name!
